I first started climbing with Ang Dawa in 2012, I had very little climbing experience but I was determined to climb Ama Dablam. This is a very technical climb and I had no idea how the expedition would pan out. I was introduced to Ang Dawa, confident in his ability after learning he had summited Everest five times. The climb went really well, he was by my side the whole time guiding me through what needed to be done step by step. He is a very respectful young man who always puts his client’s needs first.
After the successful summit and becoming quite good friends with Dawa I made plans to come back to summit Mt Everest in spring 2014. I insisted to the expedition organiser that I would come with Dawa as a private sherpa rather than using one provided. When we arrived at base camp many climbing sherpas had very limited knowledge about using ropes on the mountain so he was the one to give them all lessons how to ensure their safety for the climb. Unlike many other climbing guides I have used in Nepal, Dawa is so much more knowledgeable about safety on the mountain. He is one of the 40 highly qualified “Aspirant Guides” throughout Nepal and has an understanding for safety equivalent to many professional guides in Europe or America. I can truly say I would not prefer anyone else in the world by my side of a hairy mountain than Ang Dawa.
Feel free to contact me if you are in any way sceptical of his abilities.
